Palo
Alto, California
The
architecture of this 5,000 sf residence is based on
transparency and the revelation of structure. An exposed
steel moment frame and supporting glass walls carry
the building, and a suspended steel bridge and walkways
provide heightened access through the house. As tiny
rod micro-columns lift the roof, continuous clerestory
windows flood interior spaces with light. Custom tapered
fin columns are left exposed in the living room, and
a central stairway, treaded with marble slabs cantilevered
from two-inch torsion tubes, leaves its stainless steel
rod brace exposed.
